The Montgomery College Foundation has received a $125,000 gift from Ken and Julie Cook to support the Macklin Business Institute and the College’s nursing program. The gift honors two individuals who have made lasting impacts on the College and its community.
Ken Cook, who has served on the Montgomery College Foundation Board of Directors for 29 years, made the gift to the Macklin Business Institute in honor of Gordon Macklin, for whom the institute is named. The nursing program gift recognizes the friendship Cook developed with fellow Foundation Director Bill Hard, whose late wife, Pam, began her career as a nurse.
“Ken and Julie's gift reflects the relationships and mentors that have shaped our institution,” said Montgomery College President Jermaine F. Williams. “Their support for the Macklin Business Institute honors Gordon Macklin's vision of integrity, innovation, and ethical leadership—values that continue to guide our business program today. The nursing program gift recognizes Ken's friendship with Bill Hard and honors Pam's nursing legacy. Ken's 29 years of principled leadership and steady guidance have made a lasting difference for Montgomery College. We are deeply grateful for his service and this generous contribution.”
Cook has held leadership roles including chair and treasurer during his tenure on
the Foundation Board. While he recently announced he is stepping down from the board,
Cook will remain involved through the Treasurer's Committee.
“Community leaders like Ken Cook recognize that the strength of Montgomery County’s
future depends on the opportunities we create today,” said Bernadette Maldonado, executive
director of the Montgomery College Foundation. “Ken’s leadership as a business leader,
alongside the shared generosity of Ken and his wife, Julie, reflects a deep commitment
to education and to the long-term vitality of our county.”
Cook's contribution will support scholarships, program enhancements, and student success initiatives in both the Macklin Business Institute and nursing program.
The Macklin Business Institute provides Montgomery College students with comprehensive business education, hands-on learning experiences, and connections to the professional business community. The College's nursing program prepares students for careers in healthcare through rigorous academic coursework and clinical experiences.
