Montgomery College (MC) welcomed back one of its own on July 16, 2025, as Dr. Mohammed Eslami took the stage during the latest installment of the Pinkney Innovation Complex for Science and Technology’s (PIC MC) Community Connect. The event was part of a signature series that spotlights innovation, entrepreneurship, and collaboration happening across Montgomery County and beyond.

A proud Montgomery County native, Dr. Eslami reflected on his time as a student at Montgomery College's Germantown Campus in the early 2000s. Since then, he has earned a Ph.D. in computer science from the University of Maryland and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. He now leads a groundbreaking biotech company, Netrias LLC, focused on artificial intelligence in biomedical research.

Speaking to the engaged Community Connect crowd, Dr. Eslami shared how his company tackles one of the most complex challenges in the life sciences: the lack of standardized data in biology. His team, made up of software engineers, microbiologists, and data scientists, builds tools to streamline and clean massive date sets used in cutting-edge research. His firm is already making waves, supporting major initiatives with the Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health (ARPA-H), the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), and the National Cancer Institute.

More than just a technical presentation, Dr. Eslami’s presentation brought attention to MC’s role in launching business leaders and entrepreneurs—sometimes making a global impact. From starting his journey at a community college to building a successful career in the life science industry, Dr. Eslami embodies the spirit of PIC MC's Community Connect and its function as a platform to connect people, ideas, and possibilities.

The Community Connect series continues to grow as a key opportunity for industry, academia, and community voices to come together. Don't miss the next event on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, in the Bioscience Education Center (BE) building at the Germantown Campusnew window. Each session offers a new chance to be inspired, to learn, and to connect with the trailblazers who are shaping the future.
